Message from the Founder Director
The Institute of Home Economics was founded in 1961 under the aegis of Home Economics Education Society. Smt. Rameshwari Nehru, a highly prominent social worker of India was the then chairperson of the society. Smt. Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur, an eminent Gandhian, freedom fighter, social activist and Cabinet Minister was the Patron and had laid the foundation stone of the old building in New Delhi South Extension. The college was started with a dream of providing professional education in Home Science to girls from all walks of the society. Devotion and dedication of the faculty and the management was amply rewarded as we became a constituent college of the University of Delhi in 1969.
Today, I am proud to state that the college has not only expanded enormously, both in terms of student strength and diversity of courses, but my dream of providing quality education in Home Science and other courses has also been fulfilled. Presently, the college occupies a pivotal position in the matrix of higher education and this year it is celebrating its Golden Jubilee. As I look ahead, I can visualize the college attaining even greater heights and becoming a centre of excellence in education, research and extension.
My blessings and good wishes are always with the college.
