About the Department

The Department functions under the guidance of Dr. Namita Saini, Associate Professor specializing in various aspects of Sports pertaining to Management, Psychology, Medicine and Nutrition. The Department recognizes that Sports is not merely a matter of winning and losing. Therefore great emphasis is laid on shaping the overall personality of students. The department works towards the health, fitness and wellbeing of the students enrolled at IHE as well as the staff members. The multi-disciplinary engagement is the main characteristic of the department. Throughout the year inter-house competitions are organized in various sports events in addition to talks, workshops & seminars in order to bring awareness amongst the students with respect to human values, self-control, wellness, fitness, sports injuries, sports nutrition and sports psychology. Eminent sports personalities and experts are invited by the Department to inspire the students with their diverse and enriching experiences. Physical education is taught as a discipline to the students of Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.

Sports at IHE include a variety of activities. An Annual Sports Day Meet is organized every year bringing much excitement to the sports loving students. Students and teams from IHE participate in D.U. inter college tournaments in Athletics, Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis & Yoga. Students also receive training in self-defense by trainers of Delhi police. In addition regular yoga and aerobic classes are held in the college wherein students can participate.

The college has a well equipped gym to cater to the needs of students looking for fitness workouts.

Achievments 2014-15

• Richa Yadav (B.SC.HON.Microbiology1st year) -got 3rd position in Shot-put event in the inter-college Athletic Championship 2014.
• The College Chess Team got 4th position in the inter college Chess Tournament 2015.
• The College Yoga Team was one of the best 10 teams in the inter college Yoga Championship 2015.
