The Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd) programme is a four-year integrated professional degree programme of Elementary Teacher Education offered after the senior secondary (class XII) stage of school. This is a bilingual programme, conceptualized by the Maulana Azad Centre for Elementary and Social Education (MACESE) of the Department of Education, University of Delhi. Launched in the academic year 1994-95, the programme was an attempt towards fulfilling the need for professionally qualified elementary school teachers. BElEd is designed to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human development, and pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. Both professional and academic options are available to the students who graduate with a BElEd degree. The BElEd programme aims to produce graduates of high caliber in the field of elementary teacher education. The programme is intensive and focused to prepare teachers and attempts are made to provide a supportive and stimulating environment. Given below are some of the professional and academic options available for the B.El.Ed graduates:

• Teaching in elementary schools (Classes I to VIII): BElEd graduates are eligible for appointment in MCD, NDMC, Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in Delhi, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas all across India and also in private schools.

• Leading elementary school systems in various capacities like curriculum developers, content designers etc. Pursuing research in elementary education in the government and non- government sectors. Pursuing post-graduate courses and research studies in education and related disciplines.

• Pursuing research in elementary education in the government and non- government sectors.

•Serving as teacher-educators in various State Institutes and University Departments/ Colleges offering training in elementary/ secondary education.


Eligibility for Admission to the B.El.Ed. Programme

Basis of Selection for B.El.Ed Admission


Candidates seeking admission to B.El.Ed. Programme must have passed the higher secondary examination (XII class) of the C.B.S.E (Central Board of Secondary examination) or any other board examination recognised as equivalent to C.B.S.E an aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination as well as have scored minimum pass marks marks in each of the four subjects. It is a mandatory requirement that applicant have studied and passed all subjects (Hindi/English, Maths, Science, Social Science till class 10th).

All candidates are required to select four subjects from class XII results in the following manner.

i. One from List A and three from List B


ii.One from List A, two from List B and one from List C

Note:Note more than two languages will be considered for the purpose of eligibility from list A and B  together.

Selection Procedure for B.El.Ed admission

Selection procedure for B.El.Ed. admission is based on an online written entrance test.The entrance test is of 2 hour duration. The question paper is of multiple choice question (MCQ) format. It consists of 100 questions. Each question carries 4 marks, so the maximum marks would be 400. For each correct answer 4 marks would be awarded. There is negative marking. For each wrong answer 1 mark would be deducted. There are four options for every question i.e. a, b, c, d. Numbering of questions is from 1 to 100. There is no descriptive question. The question paper is bilingual (English and Hindi).

All admissions to the B.El.Ed. Programme will be done on the basis of the Scheme of the CEE. The Merit List will be prepared on the basis of performance of candidates in the Entrance Test. Separate merit lists will be prepared for the respective categories i.e. general category and reserved categories as per the norms of the University of Delhi.

Relaxations and Concessions

The relaxation and concessions for SC/ST/OBC/EWS* candidates and supernumerary seats for CW, PwD and foreign national candidates will be as per University of Delhi norms.

*The increase in seats is subject to approval by NCTE.
