The Institute of Home Economics, University of Delhi, celebrated its much awaited cultural festival, Feria on 23rd and 24th February 2015. Feria lived up to its name as it was all about festivity and saw the participation of more than 50 colleges in various events spread across two days. To name a few, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi; Shri Ram College Of Commerce; Hansraj College; Jesus and Mary College; Kamla Nehru College and many more. Private colleges associated with various prestigious universities also actively participated in the programme.

Bigger than ever before, Feria’15 had it all, from street plays to alluring dance performances, from mesmerizing music to glamorous fashion shows, from artistic master pieces to intellectual debates.

Starting the day on an auspicious note, Feria’15 was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by our Director, Dr. Ranjana Mahana, Dr. Renu Gulati, Student Advisor, Dr. Poonam Sachdev, Co-ordinator, Cultural Festival, Dr. Veenu Wadhwa, Student Advisor, Ms. Ruchira Guglani, Convenor, Cultural Festival and Ms. Shreya Arora, Student Union President.

On the first day, the music competition, “SAAZ” inter-college music competition was organized giving young aspiring musicians- solo as well as group, a platform to showcase their talent. 16 solo participants and 14 groups representing different colleges participated in this event.

Parallel to music competition, “NAUTANKI”, the Street Play Competition took place which saw the participation of 15 colleges. The street plays performed were largely based on social issues and completely captivated the audience. Many highlighted the issue of safety of women in India and also the current trend of saffronisation. On the whole, all the performances were intellectually and emotionally overwhelming.

At the same time, Face Painting, Poster Making and Rangoli Making competitions were also taking place in the college.

No festival is complete without crowd going gaga over a celebrity performance. Feria'15 witnessed two celebrity performances. Agastya Band- The Sufi Rock Fusion Band, spellbound the crowd with their tracks and the other by Badshah.

The evening ended with the most awaited fashion show, “FLAMES” that saw many college boys and girls impressing the judges with their poise, dresses and presentation

The second day started with “STEP UP”, Inter college dance competition wherein 20 teams representing their colleges gave scintillating performances and thus danced into the hearts of their audience. This was followed by Talent Hunt, an interactive platform for the participants which gave them a unique opportunity to showcase their talent to the applause of the crowd.

Literary Fest - “WORDS” was also organized on the second day by the Literary and Debating society in which more than 20 participants from different Delhi University colleges participated in debate, creative writing and extempore competitions. Thought provoking issues were brought up and many youngsters shared their concern and bringing out a solution.

The show stopper of Feria’15 was none other than Badshah, one of the most popular Bollywood singers, who performed and entranced the audience in the evening. Badshah, energised the crowd so much that his songs were still being hummed in the college campus much after the festival. Covered immensely by Media, Feria’15 broke all records and gave students a time of their life which they would cherish for years to come!
